Perspective & Grace
I was sharing with a woman in church today about my ADD issues and how; by God’s Grace I did not burn down my house due to leaving a pan on the stove "again"!
As I self-disclosed some of the things I do or forget to do or leave half done, she responded in kind wondering if she was ADD.
I replied, “Well, you can get tested” to which she said, "what good would it do?" Without missing a beat I said, “Then at least you would know why you do or don’t do some things and you can stop calling yourself names.
Her eyes immediately brightened when she saw the difference that might make in her life; to stop calling herself names.
Perspective & Grace: A whole new world opened up for her.
Some people fear labels and avoid personality tests. I heard recently that of the people who do take a personality test, 70 percent do not like the results!
This gave me pause wondering why?
- Do we not want to face ourselves when God says to look into the mirror?
- Are we thinking of ourselves more highly than we ought?
- Maybe for some, another label will just add to their already weakened self-image.
- Have we crafted a finely tuned image we can’t afford to be questioned?
- Are we so set in our way of being that another way is not even considered?
Each of us has a story. Each of us has a purpose, a perspective no one else carries. Nothing is a surprise to God. Everything we have done or that’s been done to us can be used for his glory. You have a unique personality of kingdom value! Do not hold yourself back.
James 1:23,24 For if you listen to the word and don't obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.
2 Corinthians 2:14 But thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ's triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume.
Rest in his Grace, no one else has your perspective. His workers are few.
God is waiting. He is offering a lit path! You are salt, ready to season your calling and touch lives! You carry his fragrance, which goes ahead of you and remains in the form of relationships and hearts that you touch for Christ.
